Description

A scene of daily life in the Scottish Highlands at a settlement on the banks of a river. A woman stands in the doorway of a cottage, while a man and his dog watch over a herd of sheep that have gathered on the track. In the distance, a man sits on a horse next to some small waterfalls, over which a stone bridge stands, connecting the two river banks. Another cottage stands on the opposite side of the river, next to a road that runs off into the distance.

The Devil's Staircase, located in the heart of Glen Coe, is a steep 584m climb up and along a rocky and precarious ridge. Usually part of a walk that begins in Milngavie (on the outskirts of Glasgow) and finishes in Fort William, the Devil's Staircase was named thus due to the steep scree slopes and cliffs which fall away from the path.
