Description

An image depicting a glen scene of wild terrain leading towards the ruins of a castle. A large stone bridge straddles a rocky ravine, while a lone man walks along the edge of the ravine carrying a fishing rod. A loch is visible before the castle with a boat upon it. Two cottages can be seen on the left hand side of the image and in the distance on the right. The terrain is rocky with a number of trees and shrubs throughout.

Standing at the entrance of the Great Glen, we can see that Inverlochy Castle was strategically well positioned. Inverlochy Castle was built in the 13th century by the Comyn family, and is a square castle with a round tower at each corner. The Western tower, called Comyn's Tower, was 50 ft high. Its walls are 9 ft thick and were formerly surrounded by a moat filled by the waters of the River Lochy.
