Dunolly (Dunollie) Castle was built by the MacDougalls. It overlooks the northern entrance to Oban Bay and was probably built in the 15th Century, although there may have been fortified strongholds at the site in earlier times. The castle stands on a sheer rockface 24 metres high. The castle has a tower house (bailie) and courtyard and was probably inhabited until the early 18th Century.
