Robert Burns, an etching and engraving by the artist William Nicholson
Description
The poet, Robert Burns (1759 - 1796), is drawn as a half-length portrait, to just above his waist, with his body straight on and his face looking out to the right (the viewer's left). The portrait show him wearing a coat and necktie.
On the left beside his shoulder are the words, "A.N. pinx. 1786", as the picture is drawn after the Alexander Nasmyth portrait in the Scottish National Galleries' collection. On the right are William Nicholson's initials and the date 1819.
