Old John Tait the besom maker who travelled the country begging and selling besoms til he arrived at the age of one hundred and ten years died in Jan. 1772 leaving Young John and 27other descendants. From an Original Print by J.K." A besom is a bundle of sticks and twigs tied to a central stick or pole, used as a broom to sweep away dust and dirt.
