An etching depicting an Edinburgh man wearing a hat and traditional 18th century dress, carrying a walking stick in one hand and two bundles of twigs in the other. Below the image is eulogy of sorts to the man who lived to be one hundred and ten.

A besom is a bundle of sticks and twigs tied to a central stick or pole, used as a broom to sweep away dust and dirt.
