The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'Muirhouse, the property of Thomas Davidson, Esq., is situated in the parish of Cramond, on the shore of the Firth of Forth west of Granton Harbour. It stands in well wooded and beautiful grounds. The old mansion of Muirhouse was built about the year 1670, but of it only two round towers remain. The present house, which is of ornate architecture, was built about the year 1830.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection in Edinburgh Central Library.
Muirhouse was demolished in 1950.
