The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This mansion, the residence of Sir Alexander Kinloch, Bart., is situated in the parish of Athelstaneford, East Lothian. It is a large comfortable family mansion, which has been altered and added to during the last two centuries. The north wing contains a room beautifully panelled and carved in pine. The wood has never been painted, and is in excellent preservation.'
