The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This mansion, the residence of John Borthwick, Esq., is situated in the parish of Stow. It is an excellent and commodious house, and stands on an elevated site looking towards the south, having a beautiful view of the Moorfoot hills, the principal of which, Windlestraw Law, is 2,300 feet above the level of the sea.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection in Edinburgh Central Library.
Crookston House is now a Bed & Breakfast establishment.
