The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'Carlowrie House, the residence of Robert Hutchison, Esq., is situated in the parish of Kirkliston and county of Linlithgow, or west Lothian.
It is a building in the Scottish baronial style of architecture, from designs by David Rhind, Esq., F.S.A., Edinburgh, and was built by the father of the present proprietor in 1851-52. The grounds around it are extensive and well laid out. There are many trees of large dimensions in the policies, and a fine old avenue of sycamores leads to the house from the west.'

Carlowrie Castle is now an events venue.
