The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This mansion, the residence of Robert Dundas, Esq., is situated in the parish of Borthwick, and though not an ancient structure, is on a scale suited to the extensive possessions of the owner. It is in the Palladian style of architecture, and was designed by W. Adam, architect, about the end of the last century. It is a massive and imposing building, characterised by a handsome elevation and just proportion in the details. Internally its most noticeable features are the Entrance Hall and now disused Library at the top of the house. The former is remarkable for the beauty of its design and for the elegance of the plaster work by Enzer, with which it is decorated.'
Arniston House still belongs to the Dundas family and provides holiday accommodation in several of the previous farm cottages.
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection in Edinburgh Central Library
