Kirkgate of Leith

Description

An image of the Kirkgate in Leith and South Leith Parish Church. The church has a large arched stained glass window above which rises a square tower topped with an oriental shaped dome and weather vane. On the road outside the church passes a large coach and horses with many passengers sitting on the roof. There is also a horse and cart heavily laden down with barrels.

Leith is situated in the north of Edinburgh on the Firth of Forth. At first a town in its own right dating back to the 12th Century it was incorporated into Edinburgh in 1920. With it's ongoing maritime connections it continues to be one of the UK's busiest ports.
