Title
Tory Gunn
Description
A side view of a man in Scottish military dress.

The poet, Donald Campbell has written a poem inspired by this character by Holt:

Tory Gunn

Look out for him, he's often seen
strutting smartly round the town.
He's a soldier of the Queen;
a loyal servant of the Crown

He'll promise any lad who's willing
a pint of ale to take the shilling
and be a soldier of the Queen.
a loyal servant of the Crown.

Peacock-proud, he's hard and mean
and full of tricks to nail you down.
So mind and take this warning, son;
Never take a drink from Tory Gunn!

Look out for him, he's often seen
strutting smartly round the town.

Note: Tory Gunn was a recruiting sergeant who was well known for his imposing presence and the devious tricks he played to secure recruits.
