Title
A east view of Edinburgh taken from the Scott Monument
Description
An east view of Edinburgh taken from the Scott Monument shortly after it opened in the 1840's. The watercolour was completed during August, in the year 1847 at 11.45am.
This view looks along Princes Street towards Calton Hill where the Observatory, National Monument and Nelson Monuments can be seen. The hill beyond the gas works chimmney is called Arthur's Seat, which stands in right of the watercolour. The railway line goes under the original (1763) North Bridge, which connects the Old Town with the New.
