Description
21st. We spent a wonderfully comfie night buried in straw (which was not of the cleanest, as some can tell!) Surrounded by Tommies, horses etc: the atmosphere was not of the sweetest, but what oh!
The transport have gone off again for wounded further back the line, they are to get them taken to the rail-head & down to Megidia [Medjidia] & then return for us, so at present we're patiently waiting & wondering "?" The booming of those old guns is louder than ever, they are very playful this morning! I hope those cars will soon come back!
22nd. The fun began yesterday - a never-to-be forgotten night! When I penned this last, we were waiting patiently & looking longingly for our cars to make their appearance - we did not sit patient very long!! Towards evening, we were flung in to a hurry of movement that left us no time for reasoning. We could wait no longer for our cars & all we could think was, that they had got cut off - unable to get back to us from the rail-head or Megidia [Medjidia] - so there we were stranded! But not for long. Things were critical, it was a case of "get away" or remain & be "taken". Trust the "S.W."- our only means of getting away was to scramble
