Opening in 1910, The Picture House was the first cinema to be built in Princes Street. (At one time there were four cinemas on Princes Street.) It was designed by local architect R. M. Cameron and included a tearoom and smoke room. The Picture House closed in 1923, and was replaced by shops. Its early closure may have been a result of its small size, about 500 seats and the competition from other cinemas in the street, including the company's own New Picture House.
