Description
April 22nd Verbliani.
Since my last entry I've not much to relate. Yesterday's stunt is worth recording, I spent an intensely interesting day.
I went "up the line", as attendant on C's ambulance. She has been carrying some v. bad cases the last few days & was keen to have someone aboard to do "first aid". I was "spared" & allowed to go with her & I enjoyed every minute of our busy day. We left here at 6a.m. & went up to Subotska - about 15 kilos from us. We had a fine run up in the clear morning air & it was so beautiful. To our left towered Kaymachallan covered with snow, then the long range of rugged mountain peaks above Wonni-Pazar, Subotska, Kapinaiani etc On the sides & at the foot of this mighty range the Bulgars are entrenched, they hold a terribly strong position & all they have to do is to train their guns on to the plain below & sweep it with their fire. The Serbs can only "watch and wait". Two prominent summits are Bedrinik & Koshiik, the latter a grand but quite unapproachable mountain. We "reported" at Subotska & were told that the wounded were being sent across from the trenches in great numbers & were being "dumped down" on the road side to await the ambulances. So off we went double-quick time. We had to go up well beyond the "dotted line" before we met the wounded & of course the ambulance
