27th Sept: 1916 Train - en-route for The Front.

Back in our stuffy, jolting old puff-puff, bound for The Front & work. We've been 2 days in the train & it has been terrifically hot, we all feel a bit limp. But "are we downhearted?" - "No"! We had a most tremendous send-off from Odessa. We arrived at the station soon after 7 o'cl: in the evening & found crowds waiting for us. All the various officials & a big portion of the British community were down to see us off, laden with chocolates & cigarettes & flowers. As we steamed out of the station, soldiers & civilians cheered & cheered. Russians & English alike have been simply splendid to us & never shall we forget, all the kindness we received in Odessa & the 4 very happy days spent there.
We are going through very pretty country, much hillier & not so bare as coming through The Steppes. Beautiful little birch & fir trees plantations & such pretty quaint old villages dotted on the hillsides. We're getting near the Frontier now. Dr. Inglis has just
