The Bank of Scotland building at 38 St Andrew Square was designed by David Bryce and built in the early 1850's as the British Linen Bank. The imposing frontage features six Corinthian columns, and above these six statues by Alexander Handyside Ritchie representing Navigation, Commerce, Manufacture, Science, Art and Agriculture.
St Andrew Square is located at the west end of George Street. It is home to the head office of the Royal Bank of Scotland. The Melville Monument, built in memory of Henry Dundas, stands in its centre. Edinburgh's main bus terminus is located on its east side.
