Description
9.1.19. Hospital Ship "Goorkha"
We are now about ½ way on our way & "some" voyage it has been too! We encountered such a storm 2 nights ago & the old "Goorkha" didn't half roll and pitch, it was just "something cruel"! This morning it is slightly calmer, but the after swell is not pleasant! Needless to say, all have been laid-low, including most of the staff! Encountering this old storm means we will be at least 1½ days late in getting in to Marseilles. There are 400 patients on board, including 7 officers & 4 "sick sisters".

10.1.19. "Ambulance Train, 21." France.
We disembarked this morning & bid adieu to the old "Goorkha" with very thankful hearts! The ambulance train was alongside the dock, so it was a short carry! By the way, German prisoners carried my stretcher!! This is one of the old 1914 "khaki" ambulance trains & one of the longest. We, unfortunately, are at the tail-end, so are coming in for rather a lot of jiggling`'! There are over 400 patients aboard. The staff consists of 2 medicals, & 5 sisters. They have fixed me up on an "impromptu" couch by the window, which is most comfie, despite the fact, that it consists of packing cases & army blankets! The weather is lovely. We are just reaching Avignon, so making a "good run"!
