Flora's Feast is very different in style from the ornate Queen Summer. Crane is using a plain background in order for his charming personifications of flowers to be the centre of attention. Crane works with flowers in a different way than the Victorian flower language that would be expected of this time. Crane's flowers, 'are personified in a way that aims at expressing their different characters and constitution by emphasizing certain structural features of each flower ... as details or adjuncts to a fanciful costume' (1). In this case the flowers are expressed as slowly being awoken by Spring. The use of parts of plants in the image is meant to evoke fanciful ideas of clothing of the time.
