Title
The Bombing of Paris Churches and Maternity Hospitals
Description
"The Saviour: 'I cannot be a Neutral.'"
"On Saturday, 23rd March 1918, the Germans made a new departure in warfare. By the invention of a long-range gun, they were able to bombard Paris from behind the St. Gobain Forest, near La Fere. The first shell fell in the city at 7:30 AM., and thereafter it was followed by others at intervals of 20 minutes. The military effect was nil, the results being the destruction of property and the killing and wounding of citizens. On Palm Sunday, the 24th, Paris was again shelled, and Good Friday suggested a field day for the Germans. On this appropriate occasion, when the churches were filled with worshippers, they succeeded in blowing in the roof of a church, killing 76 persons and wounding 90, most of the victims being women and children."
