The inscription on the oval says 'Waterloo 1815'.
The well was paid for by Robert Scott, who lived in the house known as Hermits and Termits, in the background of this photograph.
St Leonard's is a small residential district of Edinburgh. It is located to the east of the Meadows and the west of Holyrood Park.
