Annie "Nannie" Rose Scotland, nee Ritchie (b. 1902), was the middle daughter of clockmaker Leone "Leo" Levi and his wife Mary Sim Ritchie (nee Hill).
After completing her education at Portobello High School, Nannie worked in the family shop on 25 Leith Street until she married George Scotland (1899 - 1959) around 1927/1928. Her husband George was the manager of a coffee plantation in Coorg/Nilgiri Hills in South India. After her marriage, Nannie joined George in India, where the couple had three daughters: Mary Rose (born in 1929), Elizabeth Ritchie (born in 1931) and Anne born just before the outbreak of WWII.
When India gained Independence, the family returned to Great Britain.
