Title
The Crown Prince Preaches
Description
"This cartoon, inimitable in its sardonic force, satirizes the Crown Prince's humanitarian regrets and pious 'after thoughts' in an interview, October 1916, with an American correspondent. Garbed as a Lutheran chaplain, the Crown Prince, with uplifted hands, deprecates the monstrous bloodiness of the way to Verdun, and there behind him stretches the cruel road, barred by the unfeeling enemy, a road marked by military placards contrasting the heir's sorrowful regrets with his former enthusiasm for the 'glorious game' of war."
