Stockbridge Library stands on the corner of Hamilton Place and Dean Bank Lane. The building was designed by Harry Ramsay Taylor and opened in 1900. It was the third branch library to be opened in Edinburgh, following those at Dundee Street and Portobello. Like the Dundee Street branch it was designed as a joint branch library and Nelson Hall, with the majority of the building to be used as a recreational space for concerts and other activities. These halls were funded by a bequest from the Edinburgh publisher Thomas Nelson.
