Title
Infant's yellow silk shoes with original box, c1933
Description
Infant's pale yellow silk shoes/ bootees, with yellow and white decoration on vamp and tied with white ribbon. Soft cloth soles. The shoes came in the pictured box featuring a rabbit presenting a baby with shoes.
Location
Museum of Edinburgh
Accession number
MC.521.98
These shoes were worn by the donor as a little boy. They are shown with their original box, featuring a rabbit presenting shoes to a child.
During the first half of the 20th century, there was often little difference in style between infant boys shoes and those for infant girls. The choice of yellow suggests they may have been bought before the gender of the child was known.
