Title
Tanks
Description
"This new word in the English language first saw the light in the Times of 16 September 1916, and even then was not deemed of sufficient importance to warrant its introduction into the quarterly index to the paper. ... The brutally humorous aspects of the 'Tanks' as engines of war are faithfully represented in this spirited drawing, although the artist had no more accurate information than the general public. ... The tanks quickly established their reputation by assisting at the taking of Combles and Thiepval."
