Title
The Harvest is Ripe
Description
"In the early days of August 1914, when the whitened cornfields of Flanders should have been falling beneath the hands of the reaper, man was working for another Harvester, and reddening the countryside with murdered swathes of humanity. It was only natural that an artist should depict Death in the same guise as did his great predecessor Holbein in his 'Dance of Death'. This cartoon is of interest as showing the artist's earlier method of work, namely, with the pen, a form which he soon abandoned for a freer and more powerful instrument."
