Title
Trefoil Knots (Agemaki) Chapter 47 from the "Tale of Genji" inspired series "Murasaki Shikibu Genji Cards"
Description
A Japanese woman dressed in an ornate kimono decorated with a blossom design, sash belt (obi) and hair ornaments (kanzashi), looks into the room from behind two patterned sliding screens. The motifs that appear on the screen doors are Genji 'mon' (crests associated with the "Tale of Genji"). In the room beyond stands Prince Mitsuuji, easily identified by his lobster tail hair style which is tied with a purple cord. Mitsuuji grips the long sleeve of a young man who kneels by his side. Both men are wearing kimonos and swords. A bowl of liquid stands on a cloth in front of them and to the rear, shelving contains an incense burner and several lacquered boxes.
