Teviot Row changed its name to the current Teviot Place when the row of houses along its southern side were demolished to make way for the Edinburgh University's Medical School. The street stood just outside the city's Telfer Wall, an extension of the Flodden Wall. Bristo Port, an entrance to the city, was located a short distance from Teviot Row at the end of what is now called Bristo Place. The name is still held by the nearby Student Union, Teviot Row House.
J. Gardner & Son is now the Doctors Bar.
