A good George III presentation salver of circular form, the centre engraved with a presentation inscription flanked by the arms of Mackie and the arms of Leith, within a flat chased border of scroll foliage on a scale ground, and the raised rim well modelled with further foliage, all on three leaf and scroll supports. Sheffield 1818 by S. C. Younge & Co. 64 oz. 40.5 cm.
The inscription reads 'To John Mackie Esqr. Senior Magistrate of Leith. In token of their esteem for his private character and as a testimony of their approbation of his Zealous and Successful Exertions in promoting the interest of the Community. This piece of plate was presented by His Fellow Citizens on the second anniversary of His Majesty's visit to Scotland 16th August 1824.' /See Illustration/. (From a saleroom catalogue, London.
