& gold on the snow clad peaks, no words can describe the beauty & the wonder of it. After leaving Opset, more & more grandeur; to the west high mountain peaks, mighty giants towering higher & ever higher till they meet the crimson sky - orange, purple & red with the setting sun; behind range upon range bathed in a silvery light, a big shining moon & all in it's [its] solitariness, the evening star. A scene as wild & as beautiful as any that the boldest fancy could picture. Just as it was getting dark we reached Voss - a great winter-sport centre. After that we began to go down hill; now the line meanders through a river valley, - now it enters a narrow defile, between towering, pine-clad crags; again a swift succession of tantalizing tunnels, giving enchanting views of distant mountains mirrored
in the glassy surface of the water - the vast silver expanse of the görfiord & finally it emerges into the more open, cultivated country, till at last Bergen "City of the Seven Hills" is reached. We found, on arriving at Bergen at 11 p.m., that the place was choke ablock [choc a block] & not a room to be found anywhere. However, the "S.W." were not to be beat, so after wandering
