Description
along with us - the station was over an hour's journey from the B.N.Home - it was pitch dark & bitterly cold & we were very sorry for ourselves! We eventually reached the station, about 5a.m. & found there was a train going in an hour, so we boarded the said train & within a couple of hours were clear of Petrograd & up at the Frontier between Russia & Finland. We feel quite sad leaving the Nursing Home, they had all been so very, very good to us. We, of course, had not had time to bid adieu to all our kind, kind friends in Petrograd, as we had been warned on no account to let anyone know we were departing, but some day, I hope to see them all again & never shall I forget the extraordinary kindness we received from the English Colony there & their great goodness to us.
Finland, although constituting a grand Duchy of the Tsar's Empire, nevertheless possesses rights of self-government, having among other features of that privilege, its own system of customs & frontier regulations; hence the examination of pass-ports & luggage at Bielo Óstrov, the border town of Finland proper. The country in Finland & all up that side of the Bothian Gulf has very little to recommend
