Description
tea, retired to the floor & did not budge till 5 a.m. next day. Next day we were off again at 6 a.m. - that was this morning - & we got to Bolgrad about 2 o'clock. We are billeted in a very clean little cottage & expect to spend the night here & on by rail to-morrow. The first thing we heard on arriving here, was that Ismail was heavily bombed yesterday afternoon. The very day we left it! I wonder if we will ever really get to Odessa?
Think of our joy & our surprise this afternoon, when we ran in to a lot of English Tommies - real live ones! They were Locker-Lamsen's [Lampson's] Armoured car Division. They were sent up from the Caucausus [Caucasus] a month ago, to assist in The Dobrudja & they only arrived here to-day from Tultcha. They "ran away" from there last night, the last to leave as the town was being shelled. "Things" are moving quick these days methinks. We spent such a jolly afternoon with a lot of the officers & men & how we talked! It was most interesting comparing notes, the armoured car
men "love & admire" the Rumanians even more than we do! The C.O. has just been in & he says we entrain tomorrow at 5 a.m. - another cold, dark start -
"Are we down-hearted?" - No! So long./
