Cause of Accident/Nature of Accident : Breaking of sling while
raising a stone with
the crane at about 3am.
Remarks : Killed. "Diana" here discharging a cargo
of stone. (Miller Robson & Innes.) (Damage to vessel
settled for ?????????????????????? Liability as
shown in receipt. ) Family of Capt Fairless claim
compensation through the owner of the vessel - J. J Rutherland
Letter from Beveridge Rutherland & Smith t M. R. & Innes on 25th
July intimating widows claim £1,600.

the water on for his machine
his arm was caught
between two rope pullies.
At No 4 Mandrills for
Girder tubes S. E. Corner
Remarks : Deep flesh wound on right arm between
elbow & wrist (between 6 or y am. on Wednesday.)
Arm dressed by Dr Hunter who ordered his
removal to Royal Infirmary. Edinr. Where he
proceeded by 8.45 am. Train.
Geo. Harrower. Fitter in charge of said machine. & John
Gormley, both residing in South Q'ferry were present at
the time of the accident.

This book was acquired by Museums & Galleries Edinburgh in 2018. It is, as far as we know, the only surviving working document from the earliest stages of construction of the Forth Bridge.
