Leone "Leo" Levi Ritchie (1871-1958) was the grandson of James Ritchie, clockmaker and founder of James Ritchie & Son, Fine Clockmakers ltd, and son of Frederick James Ritchie, inventor of the Time Ball System and the One O'clock Gun.
After Frederick's death, Leo, who was primarily interested in tending to clocks. Although not Frederick's first born son, Leo assumed responsibility for the company after the business experienced financial difficulties. Leo ran the family business with the help of his nephew, Bertie Mitchell, the son of his sister Annie and her husband, a lawyer in Musselburgh.
Leo met and married Mary Sim Hill (1871 - 1948) at Waterloo Hotel in Edinburgh on 23 August 1897. The couple had three daughters: Catherine "Cassie" Richardson (b. 1898), Annie "Nannie" Rose (b. 1902), and Agnes (b. 1906).
Leo preferred a quiet life and his temperament was mild; he was often indecisive, and as a result, he consulted strong-willed wife Mary's advice.
