The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'The mansion of Prestonhall, the property of Henry Callander, Esq., is situated in the parish of Cranston, Midlothian. It is a large and handsome structure, in the classical style of architecture, consisting of a centre and two wings, connected with the main body by lower buildings. It was designed by W. Adam, architect, about the end of the last century, for Lord Adam Gordon. The approach from the west, running along the wooded bank of the river Tyne, is very beautiful.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection in Edinburgh Central Library.
Prestonhall is still owned by the Callander family.
