Biography
Robert Morham, architect, was born in Edinburgh on 31st March 1839. He was the son of Robert Morham of 13 Lauder Road in the Grange district of Edinburgh, which was his family home for life. He was educated at Newington Academy and the High School. In 1854 he was articled to David Rhind, transferring five years later to the office of David Bryce, with whom he spent three years. At the same time, he attended the Watt Institution and School of Art. He also studied at the Trustees' Academy. In his earlier years, he was known as Robert Morham Junior.
About 1862, he moved to London to spend four years with William Nesfield, before returning to Edinburgh in 1866 as principal assistant to David Cousin and was briefly a partner there. When David Cousin retired in 1873, Morham became City Superintendent of Works. He was involved with many buildings and structures in Edinburgh, including the restoration of St Giles' Cathedral, and parts of the City Chambers.
He married Anne Cunningham in 1873 and the couple had five sons and one daughter. His assistant James Williamson succeeded him in 1908 and Robert Morham died on 5th June 1912.
