Biography
Born in Saint-Quentin - France in 1869, Maurice Pillard Verneuil is known for his movement in both the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods. Verneuil was a painter and illustrator as well as a designer. Taught by Swiss designer Eugene Grasset, Verneuil is best known for his illustrations of reference works by various authors such as L'Animal dans la Décoration (The Animal in Decoration) by E. Levy in 1898 and Combinaisons Ornementales (Ornamental Schemes) by G. Auriol and Mucha. A man of many talents, Maurice Verneuil was also a poster artist and produced work alongside French artists such as Toulouse-Lautrec and Cheret.
