Description
soared the "views" became ever finer & finer. Just before reaching Isola del Cantona, we passed through a number of wild, wonderful gorges & in between, such rugged steep mountains, very magnificent it all was. Scattered low down on the mountainsides were tiny hamlets & always prominent the tall, narrow pointed spire of the village church & surrounding those quaint old world buildings, a walled-in churchyard with its "Madonna" shrine. Right up the [?] hillsides, were vineyards & mulberry bushes. Canteen", hurriedly "gulped" down a "bowl" of tea! We had to bundle back to our own old train "toute suite", so of course, had no time to "have a look around". We went along the Gulf of Genoa by moonlight and it was indeed most wonderful - the one fault being, the long succession of tunnels which spoilt our view at so many of the lovely bits. However, between tunnels the "peeps" were v. beautiful. There was a big, silvery moon shining & the waves lashed the rocks up to the railway line - such wonderful, bluey
