Thomas Keith's Edinburgh

Thomas Keith's Edinburgh
Thomas Keith's Edinburgh
The paper negatives by Thomas Keith are an exceptional jewel within the crown of Edinburgh Central Library's early photographic collections. This exhibition gives Keith's unique impression of Edinburgh during the 1850s. Keith was a surgeon by profession and an amateur photographer who would take his photographs before and after his working day had started and finished. His photographic skills were well respected by his peers, who considered him a master of technique. It is thought, he brought his scientific skills and keen expert eye to perfecting his photography, but it was due to work commitments that he gave up photography after only 5 years.
