After divorcing David and Mollie's father, Henry Laing Watt, and returning to Edinburgh, Jessie McEwan Blair set up a new home at 59 Raeburn Place in Stockbridge. With minimal social services to assist the single mother of two, it was fortunate that Jessie was an accomplished seamstress and found steady work in the big houses of Edinburgh New Town.
During the 1920s, Jessie moved from Stockbridge and became the housekeeper to widowed George Sanderson. Aligning with the custom of the time, Jessie and George married and resided at 35 Melville Street from their marriage until George's death in the mid 1930s.
George Sanderson worked in the Plough Inn, before managing Spier's Bar in Montague Terrace in North Edinburgh.
