Description

The white water of a steep waterfall falls from the top of a rocky, wooded bank down into Loch Lomond which lies below it. Across the top of the bank, just visible among the trees, is a small bridge that carries walkers over the falls.

Inversnaid Falls is a waterfall which sits on the East Shore of Loch Lomond, in the Trossachs National Park. The water flows from the Snaid Burn, flowing south from the slopes of Beinn a' Choin, a 770m Corbett (a category of mountain) to join with waters flowing west from Loch Arklet before meeting the waterfall and falling into the water of Loch Lomond. The falls used to be bigger than they are now but changes to Loch Arklet meant that the water flow from the Loch dropped.

The fall have inspired some creative work with the Jesuit poet Gerard Manley Hopkins, on a visit to the area in the 1880's, writing a poem called 'Inversnaid' based on the area. William Wordsworth & his sister Dorothy Wordsworth were also visitors and admirers of the wider area of Inversnaid.
