Ramsay Lodge is located immediately to the north of Castlehill in Edinburgh. It was designed by Allan Ramsay, the poet, and built in 1740. It was added to from 1892 onwards to create Ramsay Gardens. His son, an artist, also called Allan Ramsay, set up as a portrait painter on his return after study to Edinburgh. He later inherited the house built by his father, in what is now known as Ramsay Gardens.
