Edinburgh Castle from the Grassmarket
Description
Edinburgh Castle sits on a rocky outcrop. The fortification has many buildings which have windows and chimneys. The half-moon battery has gun loops in its walls. The Castle is surrounded by defensive walls some of which are crenellated. Watchtowers are positioned along the battlements, including the Esplanade. On sloping ground below the castle is a drying green. Poles for attaching washing lines are positioned around the grass. A set of stone steps leads down from Johnston Terrace. There is a handrail beside the stairs.
