Ross-shire is a historic county in the Scottish Highlands. The county borders Sutherland, Cromartyshire, Inverness-shire and an exclave of Nairnshire. It includes most of Ross as well as Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. Dingwall is the traditional county town.
At times the signature of an artist on a painting or print can sometimes be followed by the term Pinx, P, Pinxit or Pictor. These terms are from the Latin, Pinxit which means painted and simply indicates that the painting, or in the case of a print, the original item, was painted by the named person.
