The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'The house of Newbyth, also called Whitekirk House, the residence of Sir David Baird, Bart., is situated in the parish of Whitekirk. It stands on the Peffer Burn amidst beautiful scenery. It was designed by the celebrated architect William Adam, about the end of the last century.'

Newbyth has now been converted into residential flats.
