The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'Glencorse, the residence of the Right Hon. John Inglis, Lord Justice-General, is situated in the parish of that name, about eight miles south-west of Edinburgh. The present house was built about the year 1812, and is a square compact mansion, standing in a park ornamented by fine old trees.'
