The Parallel Roads of Glen Roy are geological formations created by the formation and drainage of a series of ice-dammed lakes which formed in the glens during the last ice age. They were famous during the 19th century, when they attracted the founding fathers of modern geology, such as Charles Darwin and Reverend William Buckland. Today they are protected as Sites of Specific Scientific Interest.
