The reverse of a green silk banner for the Carters of Leith.
Description
The reverse of a green silk banner for the Carters of Leith. The banner is decorated with a gold silk fringe along three sides and a painted decoration. The image bears the inscription in a scroll cartouche, 'LET COMMERCE (black on gold); Motto scroll: THE PRIDE OF THE OCEAN (black on gold), surrounded by thistles, roses and shamrocks. The left of the banner is decorated with the Leith Coat of Arms of the Virgin and Child, below is written, 'PUBLIC SEAL OF LEITH', (black on gold). The bottom left of the banner is decorated with a wheat sheaf and in the centre a paddle steamer with horse and cart behind.
